Belvoir Castle is the home of the Duke and Duchess of Rutland. The name Belvoir dates back to the middle ages and the first castle was built after the battle of Hastings. Destruction caused by two civil wars and a catastrophic fire in 1816 have breached the continuity of Belvoir's history and the present building was built after the fire. The dukedom was created in 1703 and the family has a long and illustrious history. Belvoir is groaning with history and around every corner you encounter wonderful portraits, flags, armour & weapons and fabulous furniture.
The Castle is now available for houseparties and guests can take over the private wing of the Castle and some of the state rooms for their exclusive use. The magnificent state dining room can be used for special dinners or the family dining room for more informal gatherings. The bedrooms are enormous and incredibly elegant, with magnificent curtains, ornate moldings and art work everywhere. It is a real experience to stay in a home of this grandeur.
A full staff awaits and are there to greet you on arrival lined up along the hallway. You will feel you have entered another age the moment you drive up to the Castle and the opulence is breathtaking. Somehow the private wing although grand is also cosy and intimate and guests will not feel overwhelmed. Delicious food, fine wines and attentive service are combined with breathtaking views across the valley. This is our own full blown stately Castle and for an important occassion it is hard to beat!
